Paddle Selection Guide

Need help deciding which Pickleball Paddle to buy?
Every player is looking for something different in their Pickleball Paddle. Bois Blanc Sports is dedicated to offering a wide selection of paddles that will fit everyone's needs and wallet.

There are two key questions to ask yourself when purchasing a paddle:
1) Cost: How much are you looking to spend on a Paddle? Should you go for a high performance model or will a low cost paddle suit your needs?
Low Cost Paddles
  • Made out of Wood
  • Perfect for Children or Beginners
  • Tend to cost between $20-$30
  • Tend to be heavy and not well balanced
  • Tend to have small hitting surface
  • Note: There is a LARGE difference between the quality of a wood vs high performance paddle. Equal ability players with a wood paddle will almost always lose to a player with a high performance paddle. Therefore, we recommend everyone in your group either play with wood or high performance, not a combination of the two. If in doubt, we recommend buying the high performance paddles. They are usually only ~$25 more but will save you from buying a second paddle later on.

High Performance Paddles:
  • Made out of Graphite or a Composite aluminum skin.
  • Perfect for the more serious player
  • Cost between $50-$80
  • Has a better "pop" feel coming off the paddle then wood.
  • Usually lighter weight than the low cost models, this allows for the quicker swing action many players are looking for.
  • Better weight balance in the paddle. Makes for a smoother swing.
  • More rugged. Less likely to break if you drop it..... or you "accidentally" throw it after missing a shot!
2) Paddle Weight: Do you prefer a heavy paddle that can slam home the winning shot? Does a light weight paddle that has a quick swing make you a star on the court?
Heavy Paddles:
  • Advantage: Heavy Paddles are perfect for the stronger player who is going for power. The ball will fly off the paddle much faster than when using a lighter version.
  • Disadvantage: Heavy Paddles tend to be slower to swing. The slower swing makes it harder to react when a ball is coming at you fast.
